lthough my training has been in traditional drawing and painting skills, including trompe lfoeil, I have always been experimental in my approach. My work is figurative and as well as abstract.
I start from observation of a place, a situation, a feeling. Whatever the subject I ask questions: What if? What is the mood? Does it convey real atmosphere? What lies beneath? How does this make me feel? Where is the tension? I enjoy being challenged to interpret an idea in a new way whether through use of line, mark, colour, mixed media, texture or tone. My abstract work is often intuitive and inspired my memories. I would describe myself as a painter/surface designer.

Jurassic Coast
Having been inspired by the coastal landscape of Dorset when I first arrived in Dorset I wanted to use natural materials and highly textured surfaces to explore the possibilities of interpreting the different elements of great age, erosion and the battle between sea and rock.
Media: Canvas, wood, plaster sand, metal, paint, rope and shell worked inside box frames.

Hot Wax, Cool Art!
By using traditional SE Asian batik methods on Chinese and Japanese paper I have created a vibrant, contemporary body of work based on memories of life in SE Asia. Each piece of work is unique and totally unrepeatable due to the unpredictable outcomes of using hot wax, dyes and discharge methods on different papers. This work shows the influences of travel and the diverse cultures encountered. My work is often infused with SE Asian motifs, symbolism, colour and calligraphy. Meditation has played an important part in the creative process.

Liquid
Current and ongoing experimental work using the batik methods above for the theme of Water. I am mainly concerned with the movement of water, the reflections of light and distorted images on top and also what lies beneath.
